Training Your Animal Friends

My name is John Fine and I am living my dream . My wife kids and I are  all involved in making your hunting partner the finest in the field. A little background on me when I was a young man I owned my first German Shorthair Pointer (Jake) Jake was my best friend. I did not have the knowledge nor time to give Jake the education he deserved so I sent him to a trainer to begin his life of a Gun dog. The trainer boarded and trained Jake for five months. Once complete I was phoned and told Jake was ready to go home and will be a great hunting companion. I drove 10 hours picked up Jake and the whole drive home was pets and love and dreams of chasing covey after covey of wild game birds. The day finally came when some friends and I were going to take Jake and chase wild chukar. Well Jake got the chasing down so well as matter of fact that he was doing all the chasing leaving my friends and myself a mile away. Once I finally got control of Jake we kenneled up and went home disgusted I called the trainer and told him of Jakes behavior and was assured that it should never happen again. A day or two went by and I felt an urge to take Jake just he and I to a local quail spot right down the road. I opened the kennel and vroom there goes Jake I yelled and whistled as I was told to by the trainer but Jake had no intention of slowing down or stopping. All of a sudden I heard off in the distance a dog cry and car horn blare, my worst fear had come true Jake was killed by a truck a quarter of a mile down the road. Now I tell this story not to upset anyone or blame the trainer heartbroken and in tears I vowed I will never let this happen again. A year later I purchased another German shorthair Gauge and I learned by school of hard knocks how to train Gauge. Gauge before passing of old age obtained a Jr,Senior, and Master hunter achievement through AKC American Kennel Club. I enjoyed learning and training Gauge so much that I promised myself that Jakes death though tragic will never happen again as long as I can help it. When I retire from Law Enforcement training quality Gun dogs will be my second career and second true love. (Marrying Jennifer Fine the love of my life was my first).
